Camping has always been a popular outdoor activity, and with good reason. It's a pastime that has been passed down from generation to generation, and many of us have fond memories of camping with the family as kids, and we enjoy making new fun memories with our own kids. Always make camping about having a good time, but remember to obey certain rules for safety and etiquette so the camping experience can be a good one for all involved.
Here are a few guidelines to follow for safe and happy campers:
Always make sure to set up camp in designated campsites. These areas are set aside for their proximity and safety, and often have facilities nearby in case you're not wanting to completely "rough it", so be sure you're setting up your tents and starting your campfires in the right place
Make sure to keep your campsite clean and clutter free. There are a couple reasons for this. First, you want to be environmentally friendly and not litter. Second, you want to be considerate of other campers who may set up camp in your spot after you leave. Third, you don't want to leave clutter, especially food, just laying around as this can attract unwanted critters and pests that live in the forest. Make sure to always leave your campsite the same way that you found it.
Be considerate of your neighbors. Oftentimes there will be other campers around, so make sure your pets and kids don't wander off and disturb them. Also, it's common courtesy to keep the noise levels down between 10PM and 6AM
It's always best to "be prepared" as the Boy Scouts say. When you're out in the wilderness, you never know if someone in your camp might get a cut or scrape, come into contact with a poisonous plant, or sustain some other type of injury. Be smart and bring along a first aid kit. Also in this day and age you can also bring along a cell phone just in case you have some type of Emergency, when you need help.
With a little planning and some common knowledge, camping experience, we can all be fun and safety!
