6 Super In-Tent Activities for children

"Rain, Rain Ago Away" is one of the most beloved children's rhymes of all times. When was it written? Though historians are not 100% certain about its origins, one theory is that it is based on the Spaniards' invasion of England, during the Elizabethan period. Stormy weather was partially responsible for the Spaniards' defeat. Your kids may also sound defeated when reciting the rhyme during a family camping trip. Dealing with bored kids at home is one thing. But the problem seems doubly worse when the family is confined to a camping family tent. What is a parent to do?

When packing up your family camping gear, including a family camping tent, camping sleeping bags, camping stove, and Brass Beaded Neck Chains, make sure to also pack up enough items and knowledge that will help your kids to stay busy during those dark nights and rainy days when the rain refuses to go away. Here are some ideas to help you:

1. Sing a (campfire) song. The great thing about campfire songs is that they can be sung anytime when camping, including when trapped inside tents. You can find hundreds on the Internet, but it is always more meaningful to teach your kids some of your own. One of my favorites was, "John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt." What was your favorite jingle?

2. Campfire stories without the fire. Campfire stories are an excellent activity that can be enjoyed within the confines of a tent. They can range from silly to spooky. At nighttime, you can also use a Coleman flashlight to create special effects. However, if you are camping with younger children, make sure that the ending is never too scary. That could prevent them from falling asleep later.

3. Board games prevent boredom. Just as they do at home, board games can keep your kids busy for hours, wheeling and dealing property or trying to conquer the world. Just make sure that enough light is provided, and that the games are appropriate for your children's ages.

4. Dance 'til dawn. You can use your camping flashlight to create a disco in the tent. One kid can dance around while another child quickly moves the flashlight, to create an effect that resembles a strobe light.

5. The camping trip game. This is a simple, yet fun game for kids to play. The first player says "I'm going on a camping trip, and I'm going to bring..." Then, the player can list anything that he or she would bring, such as a tent, sleeping bag, backpack, or Elastic Neck Cords. The next player begins with the same phrase, but adds an object whose first letter is the same as the last letter of the previously mentioned object. For example, if the first child mentions a tent, then the next player could list a toy, turtle, teapot, etc. The game continues in the same manner.

6. Connect the squares. Create a grid of dots on a sheet of paper. The first child connects two dots that are next to each other. Then the next child connects another two dots on the paper. The goal is to draw the last side of a square. When a player accomplishes that, the child puts his initials by the square. The winner is the player who completes the most squares during the game.

Nights and rainy days can seem to ruin any camping trip with your child. But by preparing various activities that can be enjoyed from a family camping tent, you can keep your family camping as practical as Military Neck Chains. Your kids may enjoy the games so much that they sing "Sun, sun, go away."

How To Keep Children Entertained During Your Camping Trip

Bringing children camping can be a very exciting time for both you and your child. Children are always very interested in exploring new things. No matter what kind of camping trip you are planning, your children should be the center of it all.

Children are full of energy so having lots of activities or other things to occupy their time and deplete their energy is a good idea. Going for walks, bike rides, playing catch, building sand castles and swimming are the types of activities that will keep your children occupied and help them have a good nights sleep. Bring bikes to explore the camping area, walking trails can be a great way for you to get some exercise and teach your children a little bit about nature and some of the different types of sounds and smells. They can also see some of the different types of animals in the outdoors. Children can get very excited about seeing squirrels, birds, deer and chipmunks in the wild. Their reactions from their first encounters are priceless.

It is been our experience that a trip to the beach will keep your children busy all day, they probably won't want to go back to camp. It is always a good idea to bring shovels and pails to build sand castles or maybe even a truck or car they can push through the sand. Make sure you have plenty of sunscreen and give them lots of water throughout the day. Although we always hope it does not rain during our camping trip, going prepared makes all of the difference. Having rain gear and boots for everyone is always a great idea. Once the rain stops they will want to play outside and are going to get dirty, be sure to bring lots of extra clothes and a pair of rubber boots. Having movies and music (DVD's or iPods) can help pass the time in bad weather, although board games, cards, crayons and coloring books, story books and games can also help occupy time in bad weather.

Clothing is one thing you can never have too much of. It doesn't seem to matter how much you bring, they seem to get them all dirty. Packing enough clothes for all weather conditions for each day can help a lot. An extra pair of shoes and sandals will come in very handy. It never fails, that one pair of shoes will get wet and during the evening when the mosquitos come out it is a good idea to have dry socks and shoes to cover their feet. Towels are another item that you can't have enough of, from towels for drying hands and Showers on the beach towels, which is something that we have all the time. Action clothesline between trees cling to all, drying the clothes and wet towels is worth it.

Another point that is overlooked, in general, is a first aid kit. This should be your standard elements such as tape, adhesive tape, gauze and peroxide. You should also not a drug allergy or other medications that your child may be active. In addition, cold remedies and all other you need.If you are unsure about if your children have allergies of any kind, talk to your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Ask about bee stings and bring whatever is suggested. If needed, you will be glad you took the time to pack your First Aid Kit, and add the extras to it.

Craft ideas for children - for summer fun

Summer vacation is a blast for kids and incorporating things where they can be doing educational activities, is even better. Let them enjoy summer crafts for kids to develop their cognitive skills and expand their imagination.

Doing crafts promotes creativity and develops values like openness, cooperation and perseverance. It also helps kids express themselves and build their self esteem. This is the best opportunity to teach your kids values while building a stronger relationship with them as a parent.

There are so many ideas you can offer your children, like gardening, beach fun, camping and wearable crafts. Your child can learn how to do cards, gifts, paper folding and string crafts, etc.
The great thing about doing crafts is that you can start a work, without spending much. All you need to do is make use of old and worn materials, found in your homes. Things like wires, beads, buttons, strings, clips, newspapers, caps and coloring materials.

The thing that makes a summer crafts program fun and exciting for kids are those crafts that they can wear, headbands, pins, jewelry and shirts. I use to love the Indian bead jewelry I got to make as a kid. Your child can design his or her own headband into something that reflects his personality. Have them add some butterflies, ribbons and small stuffed animals on the headband by using a glue gun or other adhesives.

You can encourage the children to make use of all these different materials as accessories, dangling earrings, made of paper clips or a necklace with a plastic flower pendant. This can be a lot of fun for your child and who knows, maybe even an income generating skill in the future.

All children love to do hand paintings on their plain shirts. They enjoy using different colors as they design their own shirts. They usually have a real sense of accomplishment when they are allowed to use their creativity and expression.

Encourage the children to collect seashells and sand during summer vacation. Then you'll have more material to use in making bracelets, necklaces and even house decorations. Shells and coral can be used beautifully with picture frames, bags, containers and even hanging decor.

For a very cool beach theme idea, have your child soak some white sand in watercolor and dry it. Place the colored sand in a glass container with some small shells. This is also a unique gift idea.

Making use of recyclable materials teaches kids about being eco-friendly and making good use of all our resources. Plastic containers and boxes can be wrapped with colorful papers and then decorated with strings and buttons, however your child likes. Use colorful glue or glitters for an amazing appearance.

Another great craft for kids that's fun and fairly inexpensive is paper Mache crafts. It's an activity that's easy and still allows the kids to express their creative nature.

1. Cover an area with newspaper to reduce the mess.
2. Decide on the design or animals to be created. Suggest they make a pinata so they can have more fun busting the goodies from the outside. Or, they may want to hang it in their bedroom.
3. Use balloons for the core of the paper Mache item.
4. Tear newspaper, colored paper or copy paper into 1" strips. Make some longer and shorter strips. Set the piles aside by length and color.
5. Make the paste by adding 1 cup of flour to 5 cups of water.
6. Boil this for 3 minutes. (Stir constantly to keep lumps from forming.)
7. Allow the mixture to cool. Then, pour into large mixing bowl.
8. The consistency should be smooth and paste-like.
9. Dip the newspaper strips in the paste. Squeeze the access paste off.
10. Place the pasty strips on the mold and smooth out the wrinkles.
11. Continue placing strips on the mold till it's covered with about four layers.
12. Allow the mold to dry completely.
13. Add more layers to get to the desired thickness and allow drying between each new layer.
14. With sharp scissors, carefully cut a straight line in the middle for the mold.
15. Carefully open the slit area if you're going to use it for a pinata. Fill with treats and candy.
16. Seal the "slit" that you just cut with clear tape.
17. Paint the mold with watercolors and enjoy!

Activities for Children - As children do not take boring

Do you have children that are bored and you can not find ways to keep them occupied? Children are our lives but keeping them occupied in their free time can sometimes be very challenging. In this article we will give you some ideas that you are welcome to try out. We have listed some activities for Indoor, Outdoor, and Traveling. You may be surprised how much fun you can have yourself.

Indoor Activities

Story Time

Tell a story; read a book or a chapter within a book and then tell a story about it making up you own ending. Another technique is have the children set in a ring and have them to add a sentence to support the story. You can get some real funny stories this way.

Giant Easel

Buy some leftover rolls of wallpaper from a charity store or wallpaper shop. Cover a wall with the wallpaper (back side out) using tape, pins, etc. Give the children paints, crayons, chalk pens, whatever, and let them create their own drawings. The little ones can work on the bottom while the large kids can work on the top.

Wax Creations

Take some old wax crayon stubs and let the kids make shavings from them with a butter knife onto a piece of wax paper. After they are done, carefully take their wax paper with their shavings to an ironing board, lay another piece of wax paper on top of it and press briefly with a warm iron. Let the kids watch as the colors melt together. Set the wax paper creations on a table to cool and harden.

Old Clothes

Sort through your old clothes looking for some that are out of fashion or that you are too embarrassed to donate or give away. Find 2 cardboard boxes, one for "dress up" clothes and one for rags. Fill the "dress up" box with the most outrages clothes, and cut up the other clothes for the "rags" box. Let the kids play "dress up", or let them create things with the rags. This will give them hours of fun!

Puppet Show

Help the kids making finger puppets from paper and creating a "show" with a script and characters. Build up a few boxes sticking them together with packaging tape. Make the top box with an opening and hang with a curtain. (You can use one of rags from the rag box for this.) Let the kids practice until they feel really confident, and then invite a few friends or family members over to watch the "show".

Entertaining Children When Camping

...can be a major challenge

Being a young inexperienced mother and never camped before myself, I was a little unsure of this venture when it first presented itself. My family, however, enjoyed the time outdoors over the years. At times it was difficult to keep the kids entertained. They can only throw shipping stones for so long until they start throwing them at each other.

Here are some fun activities that we enjoyed as a family.

Scavenger hunts are always fun. Just be sure to have an adult accompany each group of children. If you are in a campsite with other campers, the items can be a little more interesting. If you are in the woods, obviously, you are going to look for items that are nature related.

Board games are always fun, especially when the weather is not cooperating. Be sure that the games are appropriate even for the youngest child.

Building a "safe" campfire and preparing hotdogs on a skewer (Restoration Hardware store sells expandable forks that are perfect for this), and of course the original S'mores are always a hit. Everyone loves to participate. Another fun food to prepare is "stone soup". You would be amazed at how children will love the vegetable soup when they will not touch it at home.

Here is another great recipe.

"Peanut Butter Playdough".

Have each child wash their hands thoroughly before beginning this idea. The recipe is as follows:

1 cup peanut butter

½ cup non-fat dry milk.

1 teaspoon honey

Use wax paper as a placemat for each child. Let them use their imagination and create all sorts of animals. After they have completed this activity, they are free to munch on the treat.

Hope this gives you a few ideas.

Happy Camping!

On the contrary, you now have another person to teach and explore with. For those that are a little apprehensive, here are some tips to help continue camping with your children.

Choose your camping location wisely - Find a campground that caters to families. State and National Parks are usually good for this. There are also campgrounds that have organized activities like movie night, arts and crafts, and ice cream socials. Some other child friendly amenities to look for are bathrooms with running water, swimming pools or lakes, bike paths and nature centers.

Use a checklist when packing - There is enough gear to take when camping without children. You don't want to forget some of the vital gear needed for your kids like diapers, medicine, clothes, and shoes. If your children are old enough to pack for themselves, always double check their bag for weather appropriate clothing and shoes. If you are bringing bikes, don't forget the helmets and bike locks.

Plan your food selections - Make sure you have food that your kids like and will eat. Out in the woods, there is no refrigerator if they don't like the dinner you cook. Keep your meals simple. If your children are old enough, have them help with the preparation and cleaning. Bring snacks like cereal bars and small baggies of your favorite chips and crackers. If they are active all day, they are hungry.

Assign tasks to your children - This is a great way to teach something and help you keep your campsite clean and organized. preparing meals, washing dishes, garbage and cleaning the duty of the tent are just a few.

Plan some activities - you can not expect a child to sit in a camp for 12 hours with nothingdo. Swimming, hiking, and biking are three great outdoor activities but the list is endless. Point things out to your kids along the way like unusual rock formations and wildlife. Try to do activities that they would not normally do at home like shoot a bow and arrow or BB gun, skip rocks across a lake, or climb up some rocks.

Teach them how to camp - Let your children help with putting up the tent or splitting some wood for a camp fire. Teach them where and when and how to build a fire, and respect its power. Show them how cook a marshmallow over the fire and make a smore.

Camping with children can be a challenge, but when you make the effort to include them, everyone will have a fun and memorable time. Many years later when they have their own children, they will sit around a campfire and start to tell a story with "I remember when my Dad taught me to build a fire..."
